Holidays are a mixed bag for teachers. Sure, you get a ton of them.. but half the time you're just playing catch-up ((grading...)) or are taking advantage of the time off to plan ahead ((lessons...)) It has taken me the better part of 20 years to understand how to enjoy and make the most of my time off. That's too long, but hey... better late than never. Unless, of course, ignorance is bliss.. in which case, I'd be better off never having realized..?? I dunno, I'm off today, so don't make me think about it.

But in reality, no one has it worse than our K12 educators. In K12, you are always "on." Don't say, "well you get paid for that," or "I'm always on, too!" There's no comparison to being a primary or secondary education classroom teacher / educator. Still doubt me? Go look at one of your teacher friends. Yeah man, they're beat all to heck from the soul and out. No other profession does that to you in quite the same way. For them, holidays are bitter-sweet reminders that time is passing, and that they'll never get caught up (let alone "ahead").
