Oh great, here goes that "Get on the Bus" metaphor again. Gag me.
Here's what I originally shared on LinkedIn:
My Wife told me this one stinks.
What do _you_ think? Has this ever happened to you?
Mr. Culpepper did just about the best thing I feel he could have when confronted with this bundle of joy. See, any relationship carries with it some level of baggage. On the surface, this could be a really benign inquiry. In fact, in a positive and strong relationship, it could have actually gone really well and resulted in some decent #communication.
But when the baggage runs deep, the power dynamic makes conversation futile, and you feel that whatever you say isn't really going to be listened to or matter in any way... silence is generally best. This "on the bus" theme cropping up is one of those situations.
Not all #TeachedUpComics are great (thanks a lot, Wife...), _BUT_...they all do have a purpose, an influence on the characters and school culture, and a lesson behind them.
Don't get me wrong (how many times will I say that in these Commentaries...), Principal Greene isn't ALL bad. He's just the personification of evil a stereotypical out-of-touch Principal I use as the antagonist strawman of these things. And he's right: he does need an Assistant (or "Vice") Principal. In fact, most schools have SEVERAL. The heck's he doing running the show all on his own? That could be part of his problem.
In reality, an Assistant Principal's gonna be introduced soon. And when they come on the scene, my hope is to (ultimately...will take time) use them as a counterpoint to Greene. Maybe even develop him further as a leader. Tough to turn an elephant, I'm told. We'll see how that goes.
