I used to be a fog chaser. I literally would go out of an evening and drive by the fields (Sussex County, Delaware - if there was a lot of fog setting in at night, you were guaranteed it would roll in by the morning and cause a fog delay).

Here's what I originally shared on LinkedIn:
Hey, it's snowing outside!!!

Made ya look.
This went for predicting snow days, too. I mean, a teacher can spend more time listening and watching for snow delays than the time they actually get off due to snow! Teachers wanting snow isn't based on some childish desire to play in it (although I don't think a snow day went by that I didn't go out and enjoy it). Rather, teachers need as many opportunities to unwind and defragment as they can get, so when a snow day comes and interrupts things (even though it requires time then be spent adjusting the week's lesson plans), it's always welcome.

Nowadays, many school districts have just about done away with snow days. In my opinion, this is a double-edged sword. There aren't many perks to being a teacher. Looking forward to snow days was a traditional one! It short-changes the kids, too (especially those who don't have or who lose access to the internet during bad storms), which is why I applaud the school districts that have allowed for half-days and asynchronous workdays in these circumstances.
