What Work-Life Balance?

Here's what I originally shared on LinkedIn:
The #weekend is upon us, folks! For many of us, that means we get to turn our attention to family, personal projects, and relaxation.

For many #teachers, however, it means a chance to play catchup on all of the assessments that piled up over the week (since, in case you didn't know, there really isn't much time built into a teaching-schedule for grading ... wait, you didn't realize that?)

It's _so_ important to learn to minimize grading time while maximizing _meaningful_ assessment and feedback. I don't know that any pre-service teacher programs are actually preparing future educators for the heavy demands of teaching, such as:

- education-task-based time management

- community involvement ("noble" professions come with lots of unspoken expectations and responsibilities)

- #classroommanagement (huge..huge huge huge.. yes, there are _courses_ on classroom management, but the closest you are going to find to ACTUAL training that is relevant to what you'll experience as an educator will be #behavioralscience

- What did I miss?

Poor Mr. Culpepper here doesn't know any of this, yet. He's learning the hard way. Would be _great_ if someone would take him under the wing; would have been _better_ if he had just been able to go into his career knowing what to actually expect.

Hope you enjoy this #TeachedUpComics edition!
There are many sources of teacher burnout. Having all of your recoup and recovery time bunched up into Summer Break is one of them.
