One of the best parts of being a Physics Teacher is all the awesome "homemade"/"shopmade" experimentation you get to do. I've spent countless weekends building gidgets and gadgets. In one of my labs, I had students build projectile contraptions out of various components - many of which the students provided, themselves. The stored energy ranged from elastic to compressed gas - and some performed better than others (naturally).
Here's what I originally shared on LinkedIn: I will let you all decide if this really happened ...So, spoiler alert: yes, this definitely happened, and I still have photos of that day with my students. I've done some questionable things with balls, before (e.g., never place a smaller ball on top of a basketball and drop them within a confined space...), and this ranks right up there at the top. Now of course the scenario wasn't as bad as this drawing makes it appear, but as a relatively new science teacher, it sure felt like I had goofed. But really, this is nothing... ...now that time with the rocket engine inside the classroom.......... :::cough::: |
