Here's what I originally shared on LinkedIn:
Our #principals in this #TeachedUpComics strip are looking to hire a #Dean of Students.

The "Dean of Students" role sounds really nice, doesn't it? Very fancy. Yes, quite. Even sounds elevated above principal positions (unless you are at a school that calls an Assistant Principal a "Vice Principal" and fancies up their titles along those lines).

In the trenches, the Dean of Students is called the "Discipline Dean." Yes, not quite as fancy. Certainly more accurate.

The person in this role is up for a real challenge in #k12schools. They are often the person who sees all the worst aspects of a school culture (including perhaps less obvious aspects like bias and racism). Then they have to figure out - with whatever limited tools are at their disposal and within the confines of the policies in place - how to best serve the student body and other stakeholders.

No, I don't envy them their positions, either. Whatever they get paid, they deserve more, if their hearts are in the job.

I'll give you a glimpse into the future: This potential new hire is Mr. Nosilente. He's coming in on a humorous note, but over time he could see some "stuff". I don't know how deep into the role of a Dean of Students I'll actually get at first - that's how "real" this role is. What would you expect from the position that serves to inform early student _exits_ from a school?
